Residents’ Art Group creates stunning feature wall for the Meadow Lounge
The residents’ Art Group has been working on a beautiful mural for a communal space in the Almshouses. Jo Barrett, the Art Teacher, explains…
“During the Summer of 2025, the Meadow Lounge at Seckford Care was undergoing some changes and redecoration. The Art Group thought that it would be fun to be involved in these changes by creating a feature wall. This was carefully thought-out and, instead of painting a mural directly on to the wall, we all thought that a series of canvases to make one image to cover the wall would be more practical.
“As a group, we decided on a nature image, being bright, floral and colourful, that would almost be like having an indoor fantasy garden. We decided on four canvases to make the image. The size of these canvases fitting perfectly on the Art Room tables to allow the Art Group to work together to create the images.
“The Art Group worked on the canvases as a team, deciding together the colours, types of brush strokes and the application of paint. I gave support with technique and using acrylic paint – this being a new medium for the group to use.
“The project took several weeks to complete and, as well as working as a team, the Art Group learnt new skills. It was really exciting and satisfying to see the canvases mounted on the wall, as the completed mural.”
