Mandy Button named as a finalist in the prestigious ‘National Care Awards 2020’

Seckford Care is delighted to announce that Mandy Button, Activities Lead, has been named as a finalist in the ‘Care Activities Co-ordinator’ category in the prestigious ‘National Care Awards 2020’. The winners will be announced at a virtual Awards Presentation on 25^th November 2020.

There were 18 categories to enter overall, with up to five finalists in each category. ‘The National Care Awards’ were devised to celebrate the very best people in the long-term care sector, by highlighting excellence and rewarding those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care. All finalists are reviewed by two independent judges for each category.

Mandy Button, Activities Lead at Seckford Care, said:

“I am absolutely thrilled to be in the final of the ‘National Care Awards 2020’. Being the activity leader at Seckford Care is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had – it’s all about making a difference to the lives of our residents. We have such a great team here, who all like to get involved. We all believe that the residents don’t live in our place of work: we all work in their home.

Examples of some of the innovative and engaging projects that Mandy and her talented Activities team have been undertaking with residents at Seckford Care this year, during the most challenging times of lockdown, are as follows: 

– organising a memory box, offering an imaginative and interactive way of recording the life stories of residents to create an invaluable aural history record and share in their adventures.

– buying a pet rabbit, which is loved and cared for by residents and staff

– penpal and picture correspondence with children at St Mary’s Primary School

– joining a virtual choir, which families also participated with remotely

– running chair-based exercise classes with the tutor, joining via Zoom

– starting a Gardening Club

– baking for and running Alzheimer’s Cupcake Day

‘The National Care Awards’ is an annual event, organised by ‘Caring Times’ magazine, a management magazine for the social care sector. ‘Caring Times’ reflects the opinions of the social care sector, focusing on news affecting the private, public and not-for-profit providers of nursing and residential care.

Seckford Care comprises of the Very Sheltered Flats in the Seckford Almshouses and Residential Care in Jubilee House, as well as a Day Club for those who live in the community and who would like to meet other people and take part in activities.
