The Woodbridge Dementia Project was launched in 2018 by a partnership of individuals and organisations in and around Woodbridge, with the aim of making Woodbridge a Dementia-friendly town.
Cathy O’Brien from The Seckford Foundation has been involved with the Project from the outset and explains that Dementia can leave people feeling isolated or unable to contribute to society, which is why Dementia-friendly towns are vital in helping people to keep active and live well with Dementia.
“The Woodbridge Dementia Project has successfully engaged with a number of local businesses and community groups to highlight the national ‘Dementia Friends’ campaign and has gained commitment to work towards its ambition with the Choose Woodbridge team to create a Dementia-friendly community in Woodbridge,” says Cathy.
“Sadly, the pandemic has meant that the work of the Project had to be put on hold, although the group has continued to work with, and support, individuals and family carers via remote means and signposting to support groups and networks.
“As the restrictions gradually ease, we aim to reconnect with the local community and we hope that local people will join us for the re-launch of this important community campaign.”
‘Dementia Awareness Week’ is The Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship awareness-raising campaign, which this year will take place from 16th to 22nd May. The Woodbridge Dementia Project is planning a wide range of activities, events and awareness-raising opportunities within the local community.
The Seckford Foundation will continue to be represented by Cathy, who is keen to hear from anyone who like to know more about the work of the group or would like to be involved with the activities and events being planned.
Cathy is one of several ‘Dementia Friends Champions’ involved with the Woodbridge Dementia Project and is able to offer a free one-hour Dementia Friends session to interested groups to help to raise awareness about Dementia.
