At the heart of the Almshouses building is the attractive Victorian chapel, decorated in bold colours and featuring delicate stained glass windows as well as some of the original wooden pews. It was last re-decorated in 1979. The chapel is used for weekly church services for the residents, hosted by St Mary’s Church Woodbridge, as well as concerts, funerals and carol services amongst others.

Our refurbishment plan includes new, convenient and movable seating more suited to residents’ needs, that we can arrange in different layouts to suit the purpose of the venue’s use at the time. We would also like to upgrade the heating, change the flooring, install a new hearing induction loop and install a toilet in the vestry.

If you want to get involved, you can become a Friend of the Seckford Almshouses by emailing

We are planning a series of behind-the-scenes events to reveal the hidden gem that is the Seckford Almshouses, including the wonderful chapel and a fascinating Victorian cemetery too, tucked away out of sight. Let us know if local history is your thing and if you could volunteer a little time to help us find out more about our Victorian Cemetery and it’s residents. If you know about family tree research, even better!
If you can help us out with putting events together, please get in touch, we would love to hear from you. From concerts, choral works and organ recitals, to flowers shows and more, we would be grateful for any suggestions you may have.
